Herend and Lake Balaton

( Full day tour )

Let’s make a day trip to the „Hungarian Sea”.

En route to Lake Balaton we visit Herend, Hungary’s „porcelain city”. It is the largest porcelain manufactory in Europe, operating for over 180 years. We will be joining a guided tour and see the magic of technology of making Herend china. We can admire the largest collection of porcelain treasures at Herend museum.

Then we take a picturesque drive to Lake Balaton, the largest fresh water lake of Central Europe and popular holiday destination for locals. Balaton is surrounded by volcanic hills, orchards, vineyards, and villages with historic churches and whitewashed thatched cottages.

The region is famous for its white wines. There are number of possibilities to taste them either in a wine cellar or in a traditional tavern, „Csárda”. It is always good place to eat hungarian specialities too.

After lunch we will explore the ancient and imposing Benedictine Abbey (founded in 1055) on the Tihany Peninsula. Stroll around a bit in the village, see typical country houses and enjoy breathtaking views of the lake.

Before returning to Budapest we will stop at Balatonfüred, where we take a pleasant walk on the beautiful Tagore Promenade.
